Virtual Gambling: Will You Be a Victim to the Harsh Hold of Addiction?
What is it with virtual gambling and addiction that makes gamers get stuck in it from time to time? Is it an incurable disease that seems to crop up from nowhere, and infect those who spend hours upon hours of non-stop playing on the computer? Why are many becoming enslaved by this? Is there a way to avoid being addicted?
First off, if you find yourself thinking about these things, and asking them to yourself, you have to understand that there is a cure for addiction. Look around you if you're not convinced. There are many gamers who had gone through the hardest times, and have learned their past mistakes.
Now, they are living better lives - that may, perhaps, also involve a little gaming pleasure every now and then.
But, only difference from what they were then and how they are now is that they have learned how to make things work. That's why you can, too.
Virtual gambling is the easiest form of getting yourself addicted without you noticing its earlier effects. Since you are based at home, and the computer is your gaming machine, the possibilities are great. But, as mentioned, you can actually do something about this.
Here are helpful steps:
* Time Yourself. If you don't have a wristwatch, get a good, handy clock that you can put beside you on the table when you decide to engage in a certain playing session on the Internet.
Before you sit down to play, look at that wristwatch or clock and think when you would like to end your playing session. Now, remember the time limit you have set for yourself. And make it something easy for to follow.
If you've been playing longer than usual for a couple of days or weeks already, better start by removing a few minutes off from your actual playing session that you engage in. This is to make the change a gradual one that you can easily apply.
* Get up and Move Around. Getting up from time to time can also make you notice that you have been sitting for hours in front of your computer. So, move away from it, and rest your eyes. Walk away, and do something else.
That short pull-back from the computer can condition your mind that you are already finished with the game that it would be easier to turn it off, and play again on another day.
What's more, if you find that something else that you did (while you're away from the computer) to be quite amusing, this makes it doubly easier to engage in that instead of getting addicted to gaming.
Addiction can really happen when you engage in virtual gambling. But, this really doesn't mean that you have to stop playing forever. To control your habits, better opt for healthier manners of playing on certain times of the week.
