How to be Colored Up in Casinos
Chips are the money in a casino and their colors are usually the same for all casinos. Blue and the white chips represent one dollar. The red ones cost five dollars. These chips are also referred to as nickels. The green chips are the quarters which cost twenty five bucks. If you want a hundred dollars you will be given black colored chips. For five hundred dollars you will be given purple colored chips. A purple chip is also known as a Barney. The orange ones cost a thousand dollars. They are also known as the pumpkins.
However some casinos use another color for one dollar however the green chips and the red chips are usually the same for all the casinos. Assigning color to the chips makes the job easier for the dealers to watch the bets of the players. The pit attendants and the security cameras also spot the chips much easier because of the colors. There are casinos that give chips with higher values to winners than give the real value of their bet. They do this so players can have the tendency to play more. The chips given out have another color. This is what the casino calls coloring the player up.
The player will think that he has chips with higher value so he can give more bets in the hopes of winning another prize. For example a player wins after betting with two dollars then he decided to play again. He is betting with four dollars and wins again, the cashier will not give four pieces of one dollar chips but will give the player a five dollar chip and will take the one dollar chip from the player's stack.
This is possible because there is no regulation that states that players cannot use chips with higher value. When you notice that coloring up is what is happening then you can tell the dealer to change your chips. Give the chips to the dealer so he can get smaller chips on your behalf.
Players can let the dealer see the color of the chips better by using the rack. There are some nervous players who unintentionally hide the color of the chips from the view of the dealer. Good dealers watch players' racks. They do this to ensure that the player's choice of colors re being implemented well while they are wagering. They also get better tips because they help the players by doing this.
